Every great meal starts with someone who cares.
Behind every breakfast served, every decorated brunch buffet, and every favorite recipe prepared is a team of dedicated culinary professionals who choose to make a difference every single day. While many cooks, servers, and dishwashers could work in traditional restaurants, they have chosen a different path—one where the people they serve become neighbors, friends, and even family.
In this Staff Spotlight, we’re highlighting the incredible individuals who make our dining programs special. Their stories remind us that senior living is about much more than preparing and serving meals—it’s about creating comfort, building relationships, celebrating life’s moments, and making every resident feel at home.
We asked members of our culinary teams to share why they chose senior living and what makes this work so meaningful. Here are their stories.

As Culinary Director at The Township, I was inspired to work in senior living for a few reasons. One was the opportunity to work with one of my favorite teammates. Another was the happy thought of cooking with and for my grandmother, who greatly influenced my cooking journey.
That personal connection makes senior living culinary feel meaningful. It brings together teamwork, family memories, and the chance to serve residents with care. Each meal is an opportunity to create comfort and connection.
Residents have taught me the importance of checking in on one another. Taking time to stop by and ask how someone is doing can make a real difference. Those conversations are meaningful for residents, and they are meaningful for the culinary team, too.
One favorite tradition is brunch. These meals bring residents together in a special way. They also give the culinary team a chance to create something enjoyable, welcoming, and full of hospitality.
Success in this work takes flexibility. Each day can bring new needs, requests, or changes. A strong culinary team adapts while keeping the resident experience at the center.
It also takes a willingness to talk with residents. Those conversations are often a highlight of their day. They also help the culinary team understand what residents enjoy, what they need, and how to make meals feel more personal.
One moment that showed the impact of this work came through residents on special diets. Seeing a positive change in their attitude toward eating was meaningful. It showed how much care, creativity, and attention can matter.
Special diets can feel challenging for residents. With the right approach, they can still feel supported and included. Dining in senior living makes a difference when residents feel their needs are understood and their meals are prepared with care.
Every member of our culinary team has a unique story, but they all share one thing in common—a passion for serving others.
Whether they’re preparing a resident’s favorite comfort food, celebrating a birthday, or simply greeting someone with a smile, their work goes far beyond the kitchen. They create moments of joy, foster meaningful relationships, and help make our communities feel like home.
To every cook, server, dishwasher, and culinary leader who chooses senior living over a traditional restaurant, thank you. Your compassion, dedication, and commitment to hospitality make a lasting impact on the lives of our residents every single day.
Together, we’re not just serving meals—we’re serving memories.
