December 27, 2024
Each year, I choose a Word of the Year—a meaningful word that guides my focus and intentions both personally and professionally. As the Executive Director at The Township Senior Living in Battlefield, Missouri, the start of a new year always feels like the perfect time to reset, refocus, and prepare for what lies ahead. My word serves as an anchor, influencing how I lead, support families, and care for residents. Reflecting on this past year, I am amazed at how deeply my Word of the Year shaped 2024.
For 2024, my Word of the Year was courage. This word reflected two significant life transitions: stepping into the role of Executive Director and embracing life as an empty nester. Both experiences required me to face uncertainty with confidence and optimism.
Courage profoundly influenced my decisions, relationships, and personal growth. In moments of overwhelm or doubt, I leaned on courage to move forward. Change has never come easily for me, but courage allowed me to overcome doubts, build confidence, and grow stronger. It helped me lead my team with purpose and redefine my role as a mother. By leaning into this word, I became more resilient in the face of challenges.
The lessons from courage will continue to shape my journey in 2025. Each challenge I faced reinforced the value of perseverance and adaptability. These experiences have prepared me to embrace what comes next with an open heart and mind.
Looking ahead, my Word of the Year for 2025 is enjoy. This word reflects my commitment to finding joy in every season of life, whether easy or challenging. It serves as a reminder to savor the little moments and appreciate the connections I share with my staff and residents. Life doesn’t have to be so serious—there is beauty and purpose in embracing joy every day.
In 2025, I aim to fully immerse myself in service, relationships, and the simple pleasures of daily life. Whether celebrating milestones, navigating challenges, or sharing meaningful time with others, I will focus on enjoying each moment for what it offers.
Choosing a Word of the Year isn’t about having all the answers—it’s about setting an intention and being open to the journey it inspires. As 2025 begins, I encourage you to reflect on your own goals and aspirations. What word will guide you in the year ahead?
Here’s to a year filled with purpose, growth, and meaningful moments for us all.
