2023 Reflection on Word of the Year: Presence

Category: Senior Living

Author: Denise Wilkinson, Executive Director

As we wrap up 2023, we find ourselves reflecting on months past and what lies ahead with our community’s journey.

If you recall, our Personal and Professional Development Coach, Michael “Buck” Buckley. Challenged us to pick a “Word of the Year” in January 2023. Buck asked us to look inward and consider what we need more of or what might improve our lives. The time has come to revisit our Word of the Year for 2023 and explore its impact on The Township Senior Living. Whether you’ve been an active member or are just joining us, this retrospective journey invites us all to celebrate the past year.

Our community Word of the Year for 2023 was ‘presence,’ as in being present at the moment, enriching and building relationships throughout the year. We achieved many successes throughout the year, living in line with our word and improving the community.

We continued with our monthly traditions, celebrating the community’s big and small events. These include our monthly Sunday Brunches, candlelight dinners, and Happy Hours. Our outreach within the community included food drives, local school support, and small business purchases. We continued education through the Dementia Education Series and Tony’s Music History Series. And, of course, our significant events included festivals, Veterans Day celebrations, and our first annual Holiday Tree Lighting ceremony. These were all huge hits!

We lived our word by being present through our celebrations and by providing residents, staff, and families opportunities to build supporting relationships.

As we bid farewell to 2023, we will carry forward the essence of our Word of the Year into 2024. The successes and strides of our community, the embodiment of our chosen word in our collective actions, are not just markers in time but a testament to the strength of this community.

I look forward to catching our 2024 Word of the Year blog soon!
